Analysis of gender pay gap in the labour market in the Czech Republic in 2011 – 2017

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je analýza problematiky gender pay gap na trhu práce v České republice v letech 2011 – 2017. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda nerovnosti v odměňování jsou projevem diskriminace žen na trhu práce. V teoretické části jsou charakterizovány základní pojmy a druhy diskriminace, jsou zde popsány diskriminační modely a pro lepší porozumění nadcházející části autorka poukazuje na možné příčiny a důsledky problematiky gender pay gap. Teoretická část také obsahuje i popis legislativní úpravy, která se touto problematikou zabývá. Praktická část zahrnuje analýzu mzdových rozdílů a rozdílů ve starobním důchodu žen a mužů v České republice. Na základě dostupných dat je patrné, že mzdové rozdíly v České republice není možné zcela vysvětlit nediskriminačními faktory. Část mzdových rozdílů tak může být projevem diskriminačního jednání namířeného proti ženám. Autorka zde také interpretuje výsledky z dotazníkového šetření a analyzuje rozhovory se ženami o jejich konkrétních názorech a zkušenostech s diskriminací na trhu práce a gender pay gap.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor thesis is an analysis of gender pay gap in the labour market in the Czech Republic in 2011 – 2017. The main aim of the thesis is to find out if the inequalities in remuneration are manifestation of discrimination of women in the labour market. In the theoretical part of the thesis there are characterized and described basic concepts and types of discrimination and discriminatory models. For better understanding of subsequent part author also points out the possible causes and consequences of the gender pay gap. The theoretical part also contains a description of the legislative regulation dealing with this issue. The practical part includes analysis of wage differences and differences in old age pension of women and men in the Czech Republic. Based on the available data it is clear that the wage differences can´t be fully explained by non-discriminatory factors. Part of the gender pay gap can be a manifestation of discriminatory behaviour against women. The author also interprets the results of the questionnaire survey and analyzes interviews with women about their views and experiences with discrimination in the labour market and gender pay gap.
