Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá veřejným míněním o křesťanství a křesťanech ve Spojených státech amerických. V první části stručně seznamuje s historickými kořeny vybraných kontroverzí amerického křesťanství. Poté práce diskutuje současné vlivy nejznámějších amerických zpravodajských médií na obraz křesťanství. Poslední část rozebírá nejčastější představy spojené s křesťanstvím, jak křesťanů tak nekřesťanů, které se projevily v příspěvcích na sociálních médiích. Z těchto tří částí práce vytváří obecnější obraz kořenů a procesu tvorby veřejného mínění ohledně tohoto náboženství.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis concerns the public image of Christianity and Christians in the United States of America. In the first part, it encapsulates the historical origins of selected controversies of American Christianity. It then discusses current influences of major American news media on the Christian public image. The following part analyses the most often associations, both Christian and non-Christian, related to the religion which were expressed in contributions on social media. Drawing from these three areas the work presents a more general picture of the roots of the public image of Christianity and the process of its creation.
