Identity of women in male teams in technical fields

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá identitou žen pracujících v mužském kolektivu v technických oborech, konkrétně v oboru informačních technologií (IT). Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, na teoretickou a empirickou část. Teoretická část se věnuje pojetí identity žen, jejich vnitřní charakteristiky, vzdělávání se zaměřením na technické obory a následnému nástupu do pracovního procesu a práci v IT jako takové. Jelikož se toto téma blízce dotýká genderu, v práci je rovněž rozebrán vývoj genderového hnutí s ohledem na ženy, genderovou rovnost na pracovním trhu a stereotypy. Empirická část popisuje metodologický postup výzkumného šetření a zpracování výsledků. Pro sběr dat byla zvolena kvalitativní metodologie s využitím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Pro analýzu získaných dat byla zvolena technika otevřeného kódování. Výzkumným cílem práce je zjistit, jak ženy pracující v mužském kolektivu IT firem vnímají svoji identitu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is aimed at the identity of women working in male teams in technical areas, specifically information technologies (IT). The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is focused on the conception of the identity of women, their inner characteristics, education with emphasis on technical areas, the subsequent boarding into the work process and on working in IT in general. As this topic closely borders on gender, the thesis also describes the evolution of the gender movement focused on women, gender equality in the work market and stereotypes. The empirical part describes the methodological process of exploratory investigation and processing of the results. The collection of data was done using qualitative methodology utilizing semi-structured interviews. The analysis of collected data was conducted using the technology of open coding. The research goal of the thesis is to find out how women in the male teams of IT companies perceive their identity.
