Bates and Hjørland's dispute about the character of the concept of information

Anotace:

Práce se zabývá informací z hlediska Marcii J. Batesové a Birgera Hjørlanda. Tito in-formační vědci chápou informaci každý svým způsobem, což je důvodem sporu o povaze tohoto pojmu. Informace nese mnoho významů a v informační vědě neexis-tuje jednotná teorie či definice, která by byla přijata. Práce je teoretická a stojí na komparaci jednotlivých tvrzení. Vychází z filozofických východisek a analýzy argu-mentů zmíněných autorů. Cílem je poukázat na odlišná pojetí pojmu informace a doporučit řešení pro informační vědu.

Abstract:

The work deals with information from the point of view of Marcia J. Bates and Birger Hjørland. These information scientists understand information in their own way, which is the reason for the dispute about the character of this concept. Information has many meanings and there is no unified theory or definition in information sci-ence that would be accepted. The work is theoretical and is based on a comparison of individual statements. It is based on philosophical basis and analysis of arguments of the mentioned authors. The aim is to point out different conceptions of the concept of information and to recommend solutions for information science.
