A social network lexicon - Facebook: French-Czech survey

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with loanwords from the social network Facebook and their adaptation to the Czech and French language and studies the degree of competitiveness of their equivalents. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part preceded by a chapter on the methodology. The theoretical part expounds the term "social network" including the most widely used site in the Czech Republic and France, Facebook.com and also focuses on neology, formation and perception of neologisms in society. The emphasis is placed on loanwords that are in opposition with home equivalents. The starting point was based on the sociolinguistic research, which consisted of oral and written supplementary part. The level of loanwords usage in various languages ​​and their susceptibility to English was verified by a sample of French and Czech audience. Next study concerns the word adaptation, including graphic changes and prefixation of English loanwords. By comparison, we are able to determine common features of both languages. The last chapter of the practical part examines the consciousness of the respondents regarding their own knowledge of loanwords and compares the degree of accordance between the epilinguistic views in questionnaires and spontaneous use of loanword,respectively equivalent for each interviewee.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá výpůjčkami ze sociální sítě Facebook a jejich adaptací do českého a francouzského jazyka a zkoumá míru konkurenceschopnosti jejich domácích ekvivalentů. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou část a část praktickou, kterou předchází kapitola o metodologii práce. Teoretická část přibližuje termín „sociální síť“ a zároveň nejpoužívanější z nich v ČR i ve Francii, kterou je stránka Facebook.com. Dále se zabývá neologií, vznikem a vnímáním neologismů ve společnosti. Důraz je kladen na výpůjčky, které jsou stavěny do opozice s domácími ekvivalenty. Východiskem práce se stal sociolingvistický výzkum u vzorku českého a francouzského publika, který se skládal z ústní a doplňující písemné části. Je ověřována míra používání výpůjček v jednotlivých jazycích a jejich „propustnost“ vůči vlivům angličtiny. Dále je zkoumána samotná adaptace slov, zejména grafické změny a možnosti prefixace anglických výpůjček. Komparací jsou stanoveny společné rysy obou jazyků. Poslední kapitola praktické části prověřuje vědomí dotazovaných ohledně vlastní znalosti výpůjček a porovnává míru shody mezi epilingvistickými názory v dotaznících a spontánním užitím výpůjčky, resp. ekvivalentu u každého dotazovaného.
