LGBT+ and V4: Rights of Queer Individuals as a Modern Iron Curtain

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na analýzu vztahu mezi zeměmi Visegrádské skupiny a právy LGBT+ osob. Zkoumá, jakým způsobem je s LGBT+ lidmi v těchto zemích zacházeno a jaký vliv má případná diskriminace na jejich mezinárodní postavení a image. Práce se opírá o koncept novodobé železné opony, která symbolicky odděluje liberální západní Evropu od post-komunistických států, jež se většinou vyznačují iliberálními a anti-LGBT+ postoji. Autorka se snaží ukázat, že nedostatečné respektování práv LGBT+ osob v zemích V4 má negativní dopad na jejich vnímání ve světě a brání jim v plnohodnotném začlenění do západního společenství. Práce se soustředí na analýzu politických opatření ve zkoumaných zemích a mezinárodní reakce na anti-LGBT+ legislativu zemí Visegrádské skupiny, přičemž klade důraz na otázku, jakým způsobem tato situace ovlivňuje mezinárodní vztahy v regionu střední Evropy.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on analyzing the relationship between the Visegrád Group countries and the rights of LGBT+ individuals. It explores how LGBT+ people are treated in these countries and the potential impact of any discrimination on the countries‘ international standing and image. The work is based on the concept of the modern-day Iron Curtain, which symbolically separates liberal Western Europe from post-communist countries, often characterized by illiberal and anti-LGBT+ attitudes. The author attempts to show that insufficient respect for the rights of LGBT+ individuals in V4 countries has a negative impact on their perception globally and hinders their full integration into the Western community. The thesis focuses on analyzing political measures in the researched countries and international reactions to anti-LGBT+ legislation in Visegrád Group countries, emphasizing how this situation affects international relations in the Central European region.
