Two Songs on the Texts of Negro Poetry by Bohuslav Martinů as an Example of the Art Negre Phenomenon in the Czech Avant-Garde

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o fascinaci fenoménem art n?gre v české hudební avantgardě, která je demonstrována na písňovém cyklu Bohuslava Martinů Dvě písně na texty negerské poezie. Cílem bakalářské práce je na základě rešerší dostupných zdrojů rekonstruovat kulturně-historický text díla a provést jeho analýzu za pomoci heuristické, hudebně-historické a analytické metody. Práce obsahuje širší pohled na fenomén černošského umění v Evropě a v Československu. Dílčím cílem práce je objasnit významy spojované s exotickými scénami a černošskými figurami a vypracovat analytický rozbor obou písní z Martinů cyklu, ve kterých budou identifikovány hudební exotismy.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis discusses the phenomenon of art n?gre in the Czech musical avant-garde, which is demonstrated on the example of Bohuslav Martinů's song cycle Two songs to the texts of negro poetry. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to reconstruct the cultural-historical text of the work on the basis of the research of available sources and to carry out its analysis through heuristic, music-historical and analytical methods. The thesis offers a broader view of the phenomenon of art n?gre in Europe and Czechoslovakia. The partial goal of the work is to clarify the meanings associated with exotic scenes and black figures and to offer an analysis of both songs from Martinů's cycle, in which musical exoticisms will be identified.
