Personality of management students in relation to achievement motivation

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci jsme zkoumali, zda existuje vztah mezi osobnostní studentů managementu a jejich motivací k výkonu. Současně jsme zjišťovali, zda jsou některé vlastnosti manažerů patrny již u studentů managementu v 1. a 2. ročníku studia. V práci jsme se zaměřili na osobnostní rysy z hlediska pětifaktorového modelu osobnosti a na motivaci k výkonu s ohledem na akademické prostředí. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo celkem 129 vysokoškolských studentů ve věku od 19 do 24 let (v průměrném věku 21 let). Ve výzkumu jsme pracovali s inventářem NEO-FFI a dotazníkem LMI, který je zaměřený na motivaci k výkonu. Hlavní výzkumnou metodou byla korelační analýza, kterou jsme doplnili o t-testy a regresní analýzu. Výsledky ukázaly středně těsný vztah mezi rysy osobnosti a motivací k výkonu. Výrazným univerzálním rysem osobnosti ve vztahu k výkonové motivaci byla svědomitost a neuroticismus. Také jsme zjistili, že složky výkonové motivace u studentů se statistické významně lišily od populační normy. To naznačuje možný vývoj výkonové motivace s ohledem na pracovní a studijní výzvy během života.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis we researched if there is a link between the personalities of management students and their motivation. At the same time, we aimed to detect certain manager behavioural patterns in management students in their 1st and 2nd year of studies. We focused on personality traits in terms of the five-factor model of personality and on motivation regarding academic surroundings. 129 university students ranging from 19 to 24 years of age (making the average age 21 years) participated in this research, or which we worked with the inventory NEO-FFI and a questionnaire LMI (which is focused on the motivation to perform). The main used research method was a correlation analysis, which we broadened with t-tests and regression analysis. The results had shown a moderately close relation between personality traits and motivation to perform. The most significant universal personality trait in relation to motivation to perform was conscientiousness and neuroticism. We also found out, that the components of performance motivation among students were statistically distinctly different from the population norm. That suggests possible evolution of performance motivation due to job and study challenges throughout life.
