Clerical celibacy in Bohemia and Moravia in the pre-hussite era. Comparison to other European countries

Abstract:

This thesis consists of two main parts. The first part deals with general history of celibacy in the wide scope of view.Using this general construction as a base, the purpose of the second part is the explanation of enforcement and development of the doctrine of sacerdotal celibacy in the territory of Bohemia and Moravia approximately till early 15th century.Especially historical accounts of this time period leads us to discussions about the extent to which the celibacy was enforced in the contemporary church.As for the Czech lands, the visitation protocol of Pavel of Janovic, is considered the unique and important source.

Abstract:

Práca je členená do dvoch základných častí. V prvej časti je podaný obecný výklad k dejinám celibátu v širšom kontexte. Druhá časť má za cieľ na takto vybudovanom základe popísať presadzovanie a vývoj tejto disciplíny v Čechách a na Morave približne do začiatku 15. storočia. Práve pramene z obdobia neskorého stredoveku nás vedú k úvahám o tom, do akej miery bol vlastne celibát v cirkvi v tejto dobe "presadený".Pre české prostredie platí za výnimočný prameň predovšetkým vizitačný protokol Pavla z Janovic z rokov 1379-1382.
