Benefits and barriers of skin to skin therapy in clinical practice in neonatal intensive care units

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on skin-to-skin therapy/the kangaroo mother care, its benefits, limitations and barriers to implementation in clinical practice. We are using a literature review as a tool for search barriers preventing the implementation of skin-to-skin therapy/kangaroo mother care in neonatal intensive care. The theoreti-cal part aims at information about premature newborns and low birth weight new-borns, about interactions between parents and newborns, about skin-to-skin thera-py/kangaroo mother care and about the benefits and effects of this method. In the practical part, the research was carried out in the form of a literature review, which critically analysed and synthesized the barriers. The obtained resources revealed the barriers of nurses, other health workers, parents and the health system. A recommendation for clinical practice was elaborated based on the barriers we investigated.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca je zameraná na metódu skin to skin terapie, jej benefity, limitácie a bariéry implementácie do klinickej praxe. Pomocou literárnej rešerše hľadá bariéry brániace implementácii skin to skin terapie/klokankovania v neonatologickej intenzívnej starostlivosti. Teoretická časť zacieľuje na informácie o predčasne narodených novorodencoch a novorodencoch s nízkou pôrodnou hmotnosťou, o interakciách medzi rodičmi a novorodencami, o skin to skin terapií/klokankovaní a o prínosoch a vplyvoch tejto metódy. V praktickej časti bol realizovaný výskum formou literárneho prehľadu, ktorý kriticky analyzoval a syntetizoval nájdené bariéry. Zo získaných zdrojov vyplynuli bariéry sestier, ďalších zdravotníckych pracovníkov, rodičov a zdravotného systému. Na podklade nami vyskúmaných bariér bolo spracované odporúčanie pre klinickú prax.
