Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je bližší pohled na incident, který se odehrál v roce 2010 ve městě Seattle ve státě Washington, kdy policista Ian Birk zabil příslušníka kmene původních Amerických obyvatel, řezbáře Johna T. Williamse. Tato událost je poté následně doplněna historickým obsahem týkajícího se původních obyvatel Ameriky a Evropanů. Práce klade důraz na kmeny severozápadní Ameriky a na jejich život napříč historií. Od prvních setkání, kdy vztahy mezi objevovateli nového světa a původními obyvateli byly spíše poklidné a vyhovující obou stranám do bodu, kdy posvátné území původních obyvatel byly odcizeny a všichni tito lidé byli donuceni opustit svá rodná obydlí, aby mohla být zajištěna volná půda pro bělochy přicházející z východu. Tato práce obsahuje dvě hlavní části, které se dělí do šesti kapitol. První a poslední části se zaobírají popisem smrti Johna T. Williamse se všemi následky, které tato událost nesla. Kdežto zbylé čtyři části jsou historická fakta popisující podmínky ve kterých původní obyvatelé Ameriky byli nuceni žít a jak k těmto lidem přistupovali Evropané. Dodatečně je pečlivě zobrazen náhled do rasových a kulturních rozdílů mezi národy v současnosti. Hlavní myšlenkou, kterou tato práce obnáší je zvýšení povědomí o rasových menšinách a jejich kultuře, historii a pozici v jaké se ocitají dnes. Pečlivě představená podpora s pevnými historickými fakty vytvářejí širší obraz pro lepší pochopení.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to closely look at the 2010 incident in Seattle, Washington, where police officer Ian Birk killed Native American woodcarver John T. Williams. This topic is then connected with the historical background between Native Americans and white Euro Americans. Finally, it focuses on the history of Northwest Indian tribes and their lives throughout history. From the first encounters where the relationships between explorers of the new world and Natives were peaceful and prosperous to both sides to the point where sacred lands were taken from American Indians, and all indigenous people were forced to abandon their birthplaces to make land available for white people coming from east. The thesis consists of two main parts divided into six chapters. The first and last section serves to describe the killing of John T. Williams with all outcomes. Whereas the middle four are historical facts explaining the conditions in which American Indians were forced to live and how the Europeans approached them. In addition, it describes a thorough insight into racial and cultural differences between nations nowadays. The central ideology of this thesis is to raise awareness about racial minorities and their culture, history, and present situation. A thoroughly introduced factual support with solid historical facts creates a broader picture for better understanding.
