Family businesses around the world - definition, support, impact

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou rodinných firem, konkrétně tématem zcela zásadního významu – jejich definicí, a podává informaci o existenci, resp. neexistenci, formálně uznané definice rodinné firmy v 75 státech světa. Nejprve jsou na základě rešerše odborné české i zahraniční literatury uvedeny obecné teoretické poznatky o tomto specifickém podnikatelském subjektu a popsán jeho význam, charakteristické rysy, jakož i problémy, se kterými se rodinné firmy potýkají, a je identifikována potřeba formulace definice. Jednotlivé definice rodinné firmy jsou dále popsány a analyzovány tak, jak se objevují v teorii, aby pak mohla být blíže rozebrána úprava dopadající na rodinné firmy ve vybraných zemích světa, a to včetně související podpory a jejích důsledků. Metodou komparace jsou určeny společní jmenovatelé jednotlivých přístupů a zároveň diskutovány jejich odlišnosti, na jejichž základě byla formulována doporučení pro budoucí vývoj této problematiky v ČR.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the issue of family businesses, specifically the topic of fundamental importance – their definition, and provides information on the existence of a formally recognized definition of family business, or lack thereof, in 75 countries. First, based on the research of Czech and foreign literature, thesis presents general theoretical basis on this specific business type and describes its importance, characteristics, as well as problems that family businesses face, and the need for formulation definition is identified. Subsequently, thesis delves into analysis of family business definitions appearing in existing research, followed by review of definitions of family businesses used in legislature in selected countries of the world, including related support and its consequences. Finally, thesis compares and contrasts family business definitions studied in earlier sections, identifying common factors as well as differences among individual approaches and concludes by stating recommendations for the future development of this issue in the Czech Republic.
