The Myb family: oncoproteins or tumor suppressors?

Abstract:

Proteiny rodiny Myb jsou transkripční faktory s mnoha funkcemi, u živočichů fungují zejména jako regulátory diferenciace a proliferace a smrti buněk. Tyto proteiny byly dlouho považovány za induktory nádorových procesů v buňkách. Nedávné studie však ukazují, že za určitých okolností mohou působit jako nádorové supresory. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vysvětlením této dvojaké funkce a mnohotvárnosti proteinů Myb. V této práci bude postupně popsána jejich struktura, funkce a dvojaké působení v nádorových onemocněních.

Abstract:

Myb family proteins are transcription factors with many functions, in animals they function primarily as regulators of differentiation and proliferation and cell death. These proteins have long been considered to be inducers of tumor processes in cells. Recent studies, however, show that under certain circumstances they can act as tumor suppressors. This bachelor thesis deals with the explanation of this dual function and the diversity of Myb proteins. In this work, structure, function and dual effect in cancer, of Myb proteins will be described.
