The Submission of John the Baptist to Jesus as a Tool for Legitimizing the Earliest Christianity: Comparison of New Testament Strategies

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo najít, popsat a srovnat strategie, které používají novozákonní spisy - tedy synoptická evangelia, čtvrté evangelium, s přihlédnutím na Skutky apoštolů a také s přihlédnutím na dílo Josepha Flavia Židovské starožitnosti, také jako zdroj z prvního století n. l., jak podřizují Jana Křtitele Ježíši Kristu. Tyto strategie byly nalezeny především ve vyprávění o narození a to jak Jana, tak Ježíše a to pouze v Lukášově evangeliu, dále inaugurace Ježíše Janem, což znamená popis křtu v synoptických evangeliích a svědectví ve čtvrtém evangeliu, poté popis Janových učedníků a pojetí Janovy smrti. Vychází také z předpokladu, že tyto strategie byly především použity pro podřízení Křtitele, protože Jan byl nejspíš nositelem velké autority a tak měl pravděpodobně velký okruh následovníků či učedníků. Proto lze předpokládat, že v některých skupinách měl snad i větší autoritu než sám Ježíš a mohl ji proto ohrožovat, což samozřejmě mohlo mít důsledek při utváření prvních křesťanských obcí.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor work was to find, describe and compare strategies used in New Testament writings - the Synoptic Gospels, the Fourth Gospel, and also taking into account the Acts and the Jewish Antiquities written by Josephus Flavius, also as a source from the first century AD, how they subordinate John the Baptist to Jesus Christ. These strategies were found all in the narrative of the birth of both John the Baptist and Jesus, only in Luke's Gospel, the inauguration of Jesus by John, which is a description of baptism in the Synoptic Gospels and testimony in the Fourth Gospel, then a description of John's disciples and the concept of John's death. It also stems from the assumption that these strategies were primarily used for the Baptist's submission, because John was probably a bearer of great authority, and so he probably had a large circle of followers or disciples. Therefore, it may be assumed that in some groups he may had even greater authority than Jesus himself and could therefore threaten it, which of course could have the effect of forming the first Christian communities.
