Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá přivlastněním černošské kultury bělošskou společností. Cílem této práce je demonstrovat, jak současné, bělochy vlastněné korporace a internetové platformy vlivných osobností, využívají aspekty černošské kultury, které byly během doby zákonů Jima Crowa na začátku 20. století zesměšňovány, pro jejich vlastní finanční zisk, mezitím co nadále převládají stereotypní názory na afroamerický temperament a chování. Jedná se jmenovitě o fyzické znaky, afroamerický dialekt, a původní Africké kulturní znaky. Použity budou příklady rasistických memorabilií a rasistické komedie ze začátku 20. století, stejně tak nástroje, které byly používané k donucení Afroameričanů podlehnout trendům bělošských fyzických znaků. K demonstraci dnešního zneužití černošské kultury budou užity novodobé reklamy, příspěvky ze sociálních médií, a vzrůst operací určené ke změně tělesné stavby, aby připomínala stereotypní afroamerickou stavbu těla. Přidány budou také příklady kontroverze, která se okolo daného kulturního zneužití rozrostla.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the white society’s appropriation of Black culture. The aim is to demonstrate how contemporary white-owned corporations and celebrity platforms use Black cultural aspects, which were formerly mocked during the early twentieth century Jim Crow, for their own financial profit, while racist stereotypes on African American temperament and behaviour still prevail. These mentioned aspects are namely bodily and facial features, African American Vernacular English, and native African tribal features. Examples of racist memorabilia and racist comedy from the early twentieth century will be used, including the tools for pressuring African Americans to succumb to the trend of Caucasian facial and bodily features. To demonstrate the misuse of Black cultural aspects today, contemporary advertisements, social media posts, and the rise of surgical procedures aimed at the alteration of one’s body to fit the stereotype of typical African American body shape will be shown. Examples of controversy around such misuse will be added.
