Digital Art Investment Strategy

Abstract:

Cílem práce je prozkoumat historii rozvoje digitálního umění a porovnat strategie výběru umění jako investice mezi digitálním a tradičním uměním. Kromě toho se v práci zohledňuje motivace a preference investorů a rizika spojená s digitálním uměním jako třídou aktiv. Teoretická část se zabývá vývojem digitálního umění, vlivem uměleckých hnutí a osobností, historií počítačových technologií, vlivem COVID-19 a NFT na demokratizaci umění, vstupem digitálního umění na trh, vývojem trhu, klasifikací NFT a investičními strategiemi a motivacemi v tradičním i digitálním umění. Praktická část práce zahrnuje provedení a analýzu 5 individuálních polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s cílem sestavit profil investorů a prozkoumat jejich investiční strategie v oblasti digitálního umění. Dále následuje analýza názorů respondentů na trh s digitálním uměním, včetně jeho výzev a předpovědí do budoucna. Na závěr jsou poskytnuté doporučení vycházející ze zjištěných poznatků a shrnutí provedené analýzy. Záměrem této práce je sloužit jako informační zdroj pro akademiky, sběratele umění a umělce, kteří se chtějí orientovat ve vyvíjejícím se prostředí digitálního umění.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to explore the history of the development of digital art and to compare the strategies of art selection as an investment between digital and traditional art. In addition, the thesis considers the motivations and preferences of investors and the risks associated with digital art as an asset class. The theoretical part discusses the development of digital art, the influence of art movements and actors, the history of computer technology, the impact of COVID-19 and NFT on the democratization of art, the entry of digital art into the market, the evolution of the market, the classification of NFT, and investment strategies and motivations in traditional and digital art. The practical part involves conducting and analysing 5 individual semi-structured interviews in order to profile investors and explore their investment strategies in digital art. This is followed by an analysis of the respondents' views on the digital art market, including its challenges and predictions for the future. Finally, recommendations are provided based on the findings and a summary of the analysis. This work aims to serve as an informational resource for academics, art collectors and artists seeking to navigate the evolving landscape of digital art.
