Sustainable Development of a Touristic Destination

Abstract:

Diplomová práce shrnuje dosavadní poznatky z oblasti cestovního ruchu, udržitelného rozvoje a destinačního managementu, charakterizuje hlavní příčiny a dopady aktuálních trendů cestovního ruchu a ilustruje možnosti řešení na konkrétních příkladech. Podrobně se věnuje fenoménu overtourismu, který znesnadňuje udržitelný rozvoj destinací po celém světě. Praktická část je věnována analýze cestovního ruchu v oblasti Adršpašsko-teplických skal, které se potýkají s problémy souvisejícími s nárazovou poptávkou. Na základě rešerše veřejně dostupných zdrojů a kvalitativní analýzy rozhovorů s aktéry cestovního ruchu jsou identifikovány hlavní nedostatky destinačního managementu. Cílem práce je navržení adekvátních řešení v souladu s principy udržitelného rozvoje, které by ulehčily přetěžované destinaci. Navrhovaná řešení mohou být přínosem i pro jiné destinace, potýkající se s důsledky overtourismu.

Abstract:

The thesis summarizes the current knowledge in the field of tourism, sustainable development and destination management. Furthermore, it characterizes the main causes and impacts of current trends in tourism and illustrates the possible solutions on specific examples. It also aims at the phenomenon of overtourism, which hinders the sustainable development of destinations around the world. The practical part consists of the analysis of tourism in the area of Adršpach-Teplice Rocks, which are facing problems related to excessive and irregular demand. Based on a research of media sources and a qualitative analysis of interviews with tourism stakeholders, the main shortcomings of destination management are identified. The goal of the thesis is to propose adequate solutions in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, which would facilitate the overloaded destination. The proposed solutions will also benefit other destinations facing the effects of overtourism.
