Personality Structure, Academic Procrastination and Motivational Strategies

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o osobnostní struktuře, akademické prokrastinaci, výběru motivačních regulačních strategií a o roli sociálního pedagoga. Cílem teoretické části práce je přiblížit pojmy osobnost, prokrastinace, motivace a vymezit roli sociálního pedagoga a kompetence potřebné pro jeho práci. Cílem praktické části práce je zjistit dotazníkovou metodou, jaký je vztah mezi osobností, výběrem motivačních regulačních strategií a akademickou prokrastinací u studentů sociální pedagogiky Ostravské univerzity. A dále zjistit, jakou míru akademické prokrastinace tito studenti mají. Pro praktickou část byl zvolen kvantitativní výzkum a byly použity tři standardizované dotazníky, zaměřující se na tři oblasti. Konkrétně se jedná o dotazník zaměřující se na osobnostní strukturu Big five, dotazník Škála akademické prokrastinace a dotazník měřící využití jednotlivých motivačních regulačních strategií. Přínosem práce je poukázaní na problém, který se u studentů vyskytuje velmi často, jak ukázaly výsledky výzkumu, problém chronického odkládání povinností. A proto se v rámci osobnostního rozvoje studentů můžou v budoucnu hledat řešení, jak prokrastinaci snížit a zvýšit tak efektivitu budoucích sociálních pedagogů, zlepšit jejich organizační schopnosti a snížit šanci, že se studenti setkají s negativními důsledky, ke kterým prokrastinace vede. V diskusi jsou také uvedeny limity výzkumné části práce. Teoretická i praktická část práce se opírá o odborné zdroje, které jsou ve většině případech od zahraničních autorů.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis discusses Personality Structure, Academic Procrastination, the choice of motivational regulation strategies and the role of the social pedagogue. The aim of the theoretical part of the thesis is to introduce the concepts of personality, procrastination, motivation and to define the role of the social pedagogue and the competences needed for his/her work. The aim of the practical part of the thesis is to find out by questionnaire method what is the relationship between personality, choice of motivational regulation strategies and academic procrastination in students of social pedagogy at the University of Ostrava. And also to find out what level of academic procrastination these students have. For the practical part, quantitative research was chosen and three standardized questionnaires were used, focusing on three areas. Specifically, a questionnaire focusing on the Big Five personality structure, the Academic Procrastination Scale questionnaire and a questionnaire measuring the use of different motivational regulation strategies. The contribution of the paper is to highlight a problem that occurs very frequently among students, as the results of the research have shown, the problem of chronic procrastination. Therefore, in the future, personal development of students may seek solutions to reduce procrastination and thus increase the effectiveness of future social pedagogues, improve their organizational skills and reduce the chance that students will encounter the negative consequences that procrastination leads to. The limitations of the research part of the thesis are also discussed. The theoretical and practical part of the thesis relies on professional sources, which in most cases are from foreign authors.
