The first stage of the work of the Comittee on defense of the unjustly persecuted (1978-1983)

Abstract:

Tématem mé bakalářské práce je občanské sdružení Výbor na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných, zkráceně VONS. V práci je popsána první etapa činnosti Výboru, tedy od roku 1978 do roku 1983. Československo se v tomto období nacházelo v období normalizace. Což znamená návrat k formě režimu před rokem 1968. Hlavní moc měla komunistická strana, která užívala vůči svým faktickým či potencionálním odpůrcům šikanu, vyhrožování, zastrašování i fyzický útok. Byli to právě členové Výboru na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných, kteří se na konci 70. let minulého století komunistické moci postavili a odhalovali nespravedlnosti, které páchala. Hlavním úkolem VONS-u byla pomoc obyčejným lidem, kteří byli nespravedlivě stíhaní. Po roce fungování VONS-u se z většiny členů Výboru za jejich činnost stali také nespravedlivě stíhaní a později i odsouzení. Tito stateční lidé zaplatili obranu dalších lidí svou vlastní svobodou. Proto se práce zabývá též osudem Otky Bednářové jedné z perzekuovaných členů VONS-u.

Abstract:

The theme of my bachelor's thesis is a civil society organization called The Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted also known as VONS. The presented thesis describes the first phase of Committee's activities in the period from 1978 to 1983. During this time Czechoslovakia experienced so called Normalization which meant a return to the state of affairs before spring 1968. At that time the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia had a monopoly on the power and did not hesitate to resort to bullying, threats, intimidation or even to physical violence against its opponents. Members of the Committee for the Defense of the Unjustly Prosecuted, however, stood against the communist regime and exposed its acts of injustice. The main role of the Committee was to assist ordinary people who were unjustly prosecuted by the regime. After one year of the Committee's activity the most of its members became prosecuted as well and some of them were even sentenced to prison. These brave people paid with their own freedom for helping others. Therefore, the work also deals with the fate Otky Bednarove - one of the persecuted members of VONS.
