John Irving - the Cider House Rules ( Translation and Analysis)

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis has two main parts. The practical one includes the translation of several extracts from the novel and the screenplay The Cider House Rules. The particular sections from the books were chosen because of their unity in meaning, so as to allow the comparison of styles and differences between a book and its film adaptation. The analysis of my translation is based on several views, which were created by famous translators like Canadians, Viney and Darbelnet. The aim of mine was to find suitable examples according to their division. The other intention was to compare my translation to the Miroslav Košťál’s and suggest possible solutions of some phenomena.
