Ochranné spolky reprezentují jeden z nejvýznamnějších projevů nacionalismu druhé poloviny devatenáctého století v českých zemích. Národní jednota pošumavská a Národní jednota pro jihozápadní Moravu působily na jazykové hranici v jižních a západních Čechách a na jihozápadní Moravě. Protective Associations represented one of the most significant manifestations of nationalism in the second half of the 19th century. The National Union of Pošumaví and The National Union of the Southwest Moravia took care of the Czech-German Language Frontier in West, South and Southwest Bohemia, and Southwest Moravia.
