Social behavior of children raised in institutional and foster care

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo porovnat sociální chování dětí vychovávaných v ústavní a pěstounské péči prostřednictvím dotazníku The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment, jehož autorem je Paul A. LeBuffe, MA. Dotazník hodnotí čtyři oblasti sociálního chování a to iniciativu, sebekontrolu, vazby a behaviorální chování. Metodika: Výzkumné šetření probíhalo v období od 1. 2. do 31. 10. 2014. Děti z ústavní péče byly hodnoceny v Dětském centru Ostrůvek v Olomouci, Dětském centru Domeček v Ostravě a v Dětském centru v Plzni. Pěstounské rodiny byly osloveny prostřednictvím sdružení pěstounů. Celkem byly hodnoceny 103 děti, z nichž 49 dětí je vychováváno v pěstounské péči a 54 dětí v péči ústavní. Sociální chování dětí bylo hodnoceno prostřednictvím dotazníku DECA. Chování dětí bylo zkoumáno v oblasti iniciativy, sebekontroly, vazeb a behaviorálního chování. Pro jednotlivé oblasti bylo zaznamenáno T score, jako ukazatel odolnosti chování u dětí. Výsledky byly označeny jako: znepokojivé, typické a silné. Výsledky: Na základě hodnocení jednotlivých oblastí chování bylo zjištěno, že není rozdíl v sociální chování u dětí vychovávaných v ústavní péči a dětí vychovávaných v péči pěstounské. Výsledky ukázaly, že se sociální chování dětí u obou typů péče jeví jako znepokojivé a typické pro daný stupeň vývoje dítěte. Dále bylo zkoumáno, zda je sociální chování odlišné v závislosti na pohlaví, věk dítěte, pobyt v biologické rodině a délku tohoto pobytu a u dětí vychovávaných v pěstounské péči, předešlé péči v ústavním zařízení a délku pobytu v ní. Bylo zjištěno, že není významný rozdíl v sociálním chování dětí v souvislosti s těmito parametry. Významná odchylka byla zjištěna pouze v oblasti iniciativy v závislosti na věku dítěte. P-hodnota byla 0,001, což je nižší než hladina významnosti 0,05. Závěr: Mnohé výzkumy prokazují odlišný sociální vývoj u institucionalizovaných dětí od dětí vychovávaných v pěstounské péči. Cílem této práce bylo porovnat sociální chování v ústavní a pěstounské péči. Výzkumné šetření neprokázalo významný rozdíl v chování institucionalizovaných a pěstounských dětí.

Abstract:

Objective: Main focus of this thesis was to compare the social behavior of children raised in institutional and foster care through a questionnaire The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment, by Paul A. LeBuffe, MA.The questionnaire assesses four areas of social behavior specifically initiative, self-control, attachment and behavioral concerns. Method: The research was carried out in the period from 1. 2. to 31. 10. 2014 through the website of the Association of foster parents. Some foster families were contacted using e mail address. Children from institutional care were assessed at the Children's Center Ostrůvek in Olomouc, Domeček Children's Centre in Ostrava and Children's Center in Plzeň. A total of 103 children were evaluated, from which 49 children were raised in foster care and 54 children in institutional care. The social behavior of children was assessed through a questionnaire DECA. Children's behavior was investigated in the initiative, self-control, attachment and behavioral concerns. For each area there were T-score as an indicator of the results identified as: concern, typical and strengh. Results: Based on assessment of individual areas of behavior, it was found that the social behavior of children raised in institutional care and children raised in foster care does not differ much. Results showed that the social behavior of the children in both types of care appears disturbing and typical of the stage of infant development. It was examined difference whether the social behavior of children influence of gender, age of the child, the biological family residence and length of stay and the children from foster care in the previous constitutional and length of stay in it. It was found that these parameters have not a significant effect on social behavior of children. Significant difference was found only in the initiative, depending on the age of the child. P-value was 0.001, it is lower than the significance level of 0.05. Conclusion: Many researches show different social development in institutionalized children and children raised in foster care. The aim of this thesis was to compare social behavior in institutional and foster care. The survey did not show a significant difference in the behavior between institutionalized childre and children in foster care.
