Psychometric properties of GQ-ASC questionnaire: A pilot study

Abstract:

Dotazník Girl’s Questionnaire for Autism Spectrum Disorder (GQ-ASC) je v současnosti jediný screeningový nástroj, který si klade za cíl identifikovat poruchu autistického spektra (PAS) u dospělých žen. Nové studie poukazují na pohlavní rozdíly v symptomech PAS. V důsledku těchto rozdílů získávají ženy s PAS diagnózu výrazně později a méně často než muži, což u nich může vést k rozvoji psychických poruch či potlačování vlastní identity. Úvod práce se zabývá komplexním popisem PAS, diagnostiky a specifik ženského fenotypu autismu. V praktické části byl dotazník GQ-ASC přeložen do českého jazyka metodou násobného zpětného překladu. Na celkovém vzorku 142 lidí byla ověřována položková struktura, vnitřní konzistence a diskriminační validita. Hypotézy byly částečně naplněny. Dotazník vykazuje dostatečnou míru vnitřní konzistence pro pilotní fázi výzkumu (ω = 0,73). Ženy s PAS dosahují signifikantně vyššího celkového skóru než muži s PAS a neurotypické ženy (p < 0,001). GQ-ASC se jeví jako nadějný nástroj pro screening PAS u českých žen. Závěr diskutuje nepotvrzené hypotézy a možné návrhy navazujícího výzkumu, který by mohl GQ-ASC uvést do běžné praxe.

Abstract:

The Girl’s Questionnaire for Autism Spectrum Condition (GQ-ASC) is currently the only screening tool that aims to identify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in adult women. New studies point to gender differences in ASD symptoms, leading to new questions in diagnosis and clinical practice. As a result of these differences, women with ASD are diagnosed much later and less often than men, which can lead to the development of stress, mood disorders or feelings of hiding their authentic selves. The introduction of this study describes ASD, its diagnosis and the specifics of the female phenotype. The questionnaire was first translated into Czech using multiple backward translations. Item structure, internal consistency and discriminatory validity were inspected on a total sample of 142 people. The questionnaire shows a sufficient (ω = 0.73) degree of internal consistency for a pilot phase of the research. Further, women with ASD have a significantly higher overall population than men with ASD and neurotypical women (p <0.001). The Czech translation shows significant evidence of a psychometrically fit and highly discriminant tool. Necessary suggestions for follow-up research and modifications are discussed. The GQ-ASC seems to be a promising tool for screening ASD in adult Czech women.
