Modelling languages for description and audit of information flows and processes

Abstract:

Processes and their management are inseparable part of each modern business organization. Process management and process planning provide procedures which we can use to monitor, control or optimize individual processes in an organization. One of the tools used in process management are modelling languages. This diploma thesis is providing insight into the area of modelling languages, more specifically into area of business processes modelling languages. This topic is often omitted in the field of information management. The thesis is inherently divided into two main part – theoretical and applied. In the theoretical part we provide variety of definition of all used terms such as process, process planning, modelling, modelling languages etc. In this part we also introduce all three chosen analysed languages – UML, BPMN and ArchiMate. Applied part of this thesis is based on the method of qualitative comparison of these languages when we compare all these languages using our defined criteria. The goal of this comparison is to find out which of these chosen languages is the most suitable for use in our chosen organization. Integral part of the thesis is also graphical example of the real usage of modelling languages. For this goal we will use all of the three languages to model the process of large format printing provided by Masaryk university.

Abstract:

Procesy a ich riadenie tvoria v súčasnosti neoddeliteľnú súčasť fungovania každej organizácie. Procesné riadenie poskytuje postupy, pomocou ktorých môžeme monitorovať, kontrolovať a optimalizovať jednotlivé procesy v rámci organizácie. Táto diplomová práca si kladie za cieľ priblíženie problematiky modelovacích jazykov, ktoré sú využívané na účely popisu alebo auditu procesov. Cieľom je zároveň priblížiť problematiku, ktorej je v rámci informačného manažmentu často venovaná len skromná pozornosť. Práca je vnútorne rozdelená na teoretickú a praktickú časť. V rámci teoretickej časti sú priblížené základné pojmy ako proces, procesné riadenie, modelovanie, modelovacie jazyky a pod. V tejto časti sú taktiež predstavené analyzované modelovacie jazyky, a to UML, BPMN a ArchiMate. Praktická časť práce má charakter kvalitatívnej komparácie a na základe stanovených kritérií sú porovnávané zvolené modelovacie jazyky. Cieľom tejto komparácie je zistiť, aké možnosti ponúkajú jednotlivé modelovacie jazyky pre popis procesov a zároveň, ktorý z jazykov je najvhodnejší na modelovanie vybraného procesu v zvolenej organizácii. Súčasťou diplomovej práce je ukážka procesného modelovania na príklade služby veľkoformátovej tlače na MU.
