Abstract:

Tato studie zkoumala vliv religiozity a Locus of Control (LoC) na adherenci k antiretrovirovým lékům u klíčových populací (KP, které dostávají péči v One-Stop-Shop (OSS) ve státě Abia v Nigérii. Celkem bylo náhodně vybráno 98 respondentů zahrnujících dospívající dívky a mladé ženy (AGYW), muže, kteří mají sex s muži (MSM), nebo ženy prostitutky (FSW), osoby injekčně užívající drogy (PWID) a užívají antiretrovirovou terapii (ART) z OSS, která poskytuje pečovatelské a podpůrné služby KP. Pomocí průzkumu ex post facto, lineární regrese a statistik vícenásobné regrese byl hodnocen vliv religiozity a LoC na užívání ART. Mezi 98 respondenty bylo ve studii 62,2 % mužů a 37,8 % žen. Většina respondentů (77,6 %) byla ve věku 14–34 let, zatímco jen 22,4 % respondentů bylo starších 35 let. Religiozita respondentů měla statisticky významný dopad na dodržování terapie ART proti HIV/AIDS, F (1, 96) = 9,08, p<0,05). Bylo však zjištěno, že LoC neměl žádný statisticky významný vliv na příjem ART F (1, 96) = 0,05, p > 0,05). Demografické charakteristiky účastníků také neměly významný nezávislý a společný vliv na příjem ART. Bylo zjištěno, že religiozita je prediktorem špatného příjmu ART. Důležité jsou tedy intervence zaměřené na podporu religiozity při zvyšování příjmu ART. Doporučuje se, aby poskytovatelé zdravotní péče vyhodnotili religiozitu pacientů před zahájením ART a během každé návštěvy kliniky.

Abstract:

This study examined the influence of religiosity and Locus of Control (LoC) on adherence to antiretroviral drugs among key populations (KP) receiving care in a One-Stop-Shop (OSS) in Abia State, Nigeria. A total of 98 respondents comprising Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), or Female Sex Workers (FSW), People who Inject Drugs (PWID), on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) were randomly selected from OSS providing care and support services to KPs. Using an ex post facto survey design, Linear regression, and multiple regression statistics, the influence of religiosity, and LoC on adherence to ART was assessed. Amongst the 98 participants recruited for the study, 62.2% were male, and 37.8% were female. Most participants, 77.6%, were between 14 and 34, while 22.4% were >35 years old. Participants' religiosity had a statistically significant impact on adherence to ART against HIV/AIDS, F (1, 96) = 9.08, p<.05). However, LoC was found to have no statistically significant influence on ART adherence F (1, 96) = 0.05, p>.05). The demographic characteristics of participants also did not have significant independent and joint influence on ART adherence. The religiosity of KPs was found to be a predictor of poor adherence to ART. Thus, interventions aimed at promoting beneficial religiosity in increasing adherence to ART are important. It is recommended that healthcare providers assess patients' religiosity prior to ART initiation and during every clinic visit for refills.
