Seasonal changes in overnight flight activity of common pipistrelles,Pipistrellus pipistrellus s.s.

Abstract:

Výzkum netopýra hvízdavého, Pipistrellus pipistrelus, probíhal v Hranické propasti v sezóně 2008. Byl zaměřen na vyhodnocení letové aktivity během osmnácti sledovaných nocí v období od dubna do listopadu. Zdrojem pro hodnocení aktivity byly nahrávky echolokačních hlasů pořízené automatickou detekcí ultrazvuku. Bat-detektor a DAT rekordér byly vždy umístěny na tomtéž místě pod horní hranou Propasti; nahrávání obvykle probíhalo kontinuálně po celou noc. Délka noci byla vymezena západem a východem slunce. Každá noc byla rozdělena na osminy a sezóna monitoringu na pět period ve vtahu k reprodukčnímu cyklu netopýrů. Relativní aktivita byla vyjádřena počtem minut se záznamem hlasu netopýra vztaženým na jednu hodinu nahrávání (min+/hod). Nejvyšší aktivita byla zaznamenána v červenci, nejnižší v dubnu. Ve většině případů byla nejvyšší kolem půlnoci, v podzimních měsících se vrchol aktivity posunul již do druhé nebo třetí osminy noci. Aktivita pozitivně korelovala s teplotou vzduchu obzvláště pak na začátku a konci sledovaného období. Aktivita byla příležitostně zaznamenána i v zimě, což ukazuje, že alespoň někteří jedinci v hlubokých puklinách skalní stěny propasti hibernují. Akustické sledování ukázalo, že se netopýři na studované lokalitě vyskytují po celý rok, ale ani lov, ani páření zde nebyly potvrzeny.

Abstract:

Research of common pipistrelles, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, was carried out in the Hranická Chasm in 2008. It was focused on the overnight changes in activity during 18 monitored nights from April to November. Recordings of echolocation calls acquired by an automatic ultrasound detection afforded the main data source. The bat-detector and DAT recorder were always situated on the same detecting point located below the top edge of the chasm and recordings usually proceeded continually over the night. The length of the night was limited by the time of sunset and sunrise. Each night was divided into eighths and the season of monitoring into five periods related to the reproductive cycle of bats. Relative activity defined as the number of minutes with the record of bat calls related to an hour of recording (min+/hour) reached the peak in July while it was low in April. The highest level of the overnight activity was recorded around the midnight during most nights, but in the autumns´ nights the peak was already found in the 2nd or 3rd eighths of the night. Bat activity was positively correlated with air temperature especially at the beginning and the end of the season. Activity ocasionally recorded during winter can show, that at least some individuals can hibernate in deep crevices of rock walls. Acoustic monitoring of bats suggests all the year round occurrence of pipistrelles in the study site but neither foraging or mating were confirmed here.
