Diagnostic process of autism spectrum disorder: Perspectives of parents and professionals

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je prozkoumat a popsat klíčová témata a aspekty diagnostického procesu autismu z perspektivy rodičů a zároveň z pohledu odborníků, kteří se diagnostice věnují. V teoretické části je představeno téma autismu a jeho pojetí v diagnostických manuálech, dále je popsán samotný diagnostický proces a jsou uvedeny klíčové psychologické aspekty, které se s ním pojí. Pro zodpovězení výzkumných otázek byl zvolen kvalitativní typ výzkumu s využitím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, kterého se zúčastnilo 7 participantů. Po analýze dat pomocí tematické analýzy byla identifikována 4 hlavní témata: Fáze podezření, Faktory ovlivňující včasnou diagnostiku, Diagnostické vyšetření a Závěr diagnostického procesu. Ta jsou v práci detailně popsána a prodiskutována. Výsledky této práce přispěly k lepšímu porozumění diagnostického procesu autismu a zároveň mohou sloužit jako podklad pro jeho zkvalitnění.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore and describe the key themes and aspects of the diagnostic process of autism from the perspective of parents and professionals involved in autism diagnosis. In the theoretical part is introduced the topic of autism and its conception in diagnostic manuals, further there is a description of the diagnostic process itself and there are listed key psychological aspects associated with it. To answer the research questions, a qualitative type of research with semi-structured interviews was chosen. In the research took part 7 participants. After analysing the data using thematic analysis, 4 main themes were identified: Phase of suspicion, Factors influencing early diagnosis, Diagnostic assessment and Conclusion of the diagnostic process, which are described in detail and further discussed. The results of this work have contributed to a better understanding of the diagnostic process of autism and can also serve as a basis for its improvement.
