Monogeneans parasitizing African fishes of Barbus (Cyprinidae): species diversity and host spectrum

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je literární rešerší zabývající se zástupci monogeneí, kteří parazitují na afrických rybách rodu Barbus. První část práce se věnuje základní charakteristice této skupiny parazitů (morfologie, životní cyklus, hostitelská specifičnost, klasifikace) a stručně shrnuje problematiku týkající se evoluční historie a systematiky ryb rodu Barbus. Druhá část předkládá seznam monogeneí doposud zaznamenaných na afrických zástupcích rodu Barbus, a to formou parazit-hostitel a hostitel-parazit check list. Celkem zahrnuje 84 druhů monogeneí náležejících do 6 rodů: Dactylogyroides (1 druh), Dactylogyrus (72 druhů), Dogielius (7 druhů), Gyrodactylus (2 druhy), Diplozoon (1 druh) a Neodiplozoon (1 druh). Tato monogenea byla zaznamenána na 44 druzích rodu Barbus, některé druhy byly nalezeny také na dalších rodech: Brycinus, Labeo, Labeobarbus, Leptocypris a Raiamas. Parazit-hostitel check list zahrnuje hlavní taxonomické údaje o jednotlivých druzích monogeneí, převážnou část tvoří zástupci čeledi Dactylogyridae. Každý druh je zapsán pod platným vědeckým jménem, včetně autora a data, a uvedena jsou i případná synonyma. Následují údaje o hostiteli a lokalitě nálezu daného parazita. Hostitelé jsou vypsáni abecedně podle jmen uvedených v původním záznamu, dnes platná jména ryb jsou uvedena v závorce. Ke každému hostiteli a lokalitě je uveden číselný odkaz na referenci. Lokalizace představuje místo výskytu daného druhu monogeneí na těle hostitele. V seznamu hostitel-parazit jsou hostitelské druhy seřazeny systematicky podle dnes platných jmen. Ke každému je uveden seznam nalezených monogeneí. Nejvíce druhů monogeneí bylo zaznamenáno na Barbus cf. kersteni (9 druhů rodu Dactylogyrus a 1 druh rodu Neodiplozoon). Poslední část práce obsahuje mapu Afriky s očíslovanými státy, na jejichž území byla na rybách rodu Barbus zaznamenána monogenea. Následuje host-parazit check list podle států. Většina dosavadních taxonomických záznamů pochází z Ugandy, Kamerunu a Maroka.

Abstract:

This thesis is a literature review dealing with monogeneans parasitizing African fishes of Barbus. The first part of the thesis includes basic characteristics of the group of parasites (morphology, life cycle, host specificity, and classification) and brief information on the evolutionary history and systematics of the genus Barbus. The second part provides listing of the monogeneans hitherto reported from the African species of Barbus in the form of parasite-host and host-parasite check lists. It includes a total of 84 monogenean species represented by the following 6 genera: Dactylogyroides (1 species), Dactylogyrus (72 species), Dogielius (7 species), Gyrodactylus (2 species), Diplozoon (1 species) and Neodiplozoon (1 species). These monogeneans are recorded from 44 species of Barbus, some of them were also found on fishes of other genera: Brycinus, Labeo, Labeobarbus, Leptocypris and Raiamas. The parasite-host list is a taxonomically arranged listing consists predominantly of monogeneans of the Dactylogyridae. For each parasite, the currently recognized scientific name, including authors and dates, and any synonyms under which original records appeared are given. This is followed by the host(s) and locality(s) on/in which the parasite was found. The hosts are listed alphabetically by their names under which original parasite records were made, followed by currently recognized names in parentheses. Location gives the site of infection where the parasite is normally found on the host. In parentheses, following each host name and locality, are given the numbers for references. In the host-parasite list, the hosts are listed systematically by their currently recognized scientific names, followed by alphabetically arranged listing of all monogeneans reported for the host. The most monogenean species were recorded from Barbus cf. kersteni (9 species of Dactylogyrus and 1 species of Neodiplozoon). The last part contains map of Africa with numbered countries in which monogeneans on Barbus spp. were recorded. This is followed by host-parasite check list by countries. The majority of the taxonomic research on monogeneans in Africa is from studies done in Uganda, Cameroon and Morocco.
