Comparison of Technologies for Multiplatform Mobile Applications Development

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá moderními přístupy k multiplatformnímu vývoji mobilních aplikací. Práce se zaměřuje na srovnání dvou rozdílných přístupů: vývoj nativně kompilovaných multiplatformních aplikací, tzn. aplikací, které se kompilují do nativního kódu dané platformy, a na vývoj takzvaných Progressive Web Applications. Kromě srovnání použitých technologií jsem navrh a implementoval tři netriviální aplikace, poskytující totožnou funkcionalitu, pomocí technologií React Native a Flutter. Dále byla provedena řada experimentů zaměřených na objektivně měřitelné metriky jako je využití CPU a paměti zařízení. V závěru práce jsem poskytl subjektivní zhodnocení složitosti vývoje v těchto technologiích.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the modern cross-platform mobile applications development following the "write once, run everywhere" approach. It focuses on comparing two distinct concepts: development of native cross-platform applications, i.e., those that compile to the native code for given platform and Progressive Web Applications. Besides the overview of used technologies, I designed and implemented three non-trivial applications (having the same functionality) using React Native and Flutter. Next, I performed a series of experiments focusing on objectively measurable metrics such as CPU and memory utilization. I also provided a subjective assessment of the development complexity.
