Update of learning materials about OpenStreetMap styles

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce bylo aktualizovat a rozšířit interaktivní osnovu týkající se stylů pro vykreslování dat OpenStreetMap v rámci předmětu Z8149 Alternativní GIS – volně dostupné programy a data. Po teoretickém seznámení s pojmy jako kartografický styl, OpenStreetMap a jazyky (formáty), které slouží pro zápis stylových šablon, byla provedena rešerše kartografických nástrojů, jež jsou kompatibilní s daty OpenStreetMap. Kartografické nástroje byly na základě dvou fází testování porovnávány, přičemž nejvyššího počtu bodů dosáhl nástroj Mapbox Studio. Z obsahu teoretické a praktické části byly vytvořeny výukové materiály ve formě interaktivní osnovy, pomocí nichž se studenti seznámili s výše popsanou problematikou a rovněž jim bylo zadáno cvičení, ve kterém si osvojili proces tvorby stylu právě v nástroji Mapbox Studio. Smyslem zadaného cvičení bylo získání zpětné vazby od studentů, která měla poukázat na případné nedostatky ve zpracování výukových materiálů v interaktivní osnově. Získaná zpětná vazba od studentů poukázala na drobné nedostatky ve zpracování interaktivní osnovy, celkově však byly výukové materiály hodnoceny jako užitečné a přínosné. Interaktivní osnova byla upravena do takové podoby, aby drobné nedostatky byly v co největší míře eliminovány.

Abstract:

The main goal of this bachelor's thesis was to update and expand the interactive curriculum regarding styles for rendering OpenStreetMap data within the course Z8149 Alternative GIS - freely available programs and data. After a theoretical introduction to concepts such as cartographic style, OpenStreetMap and languages (formats) used for writing style templates, a search was made for cartographic tools that are compatible with OpenStreetMap data. Cartography tools were compared based on two phases of testing, with Mapbox Studio scoring the highest. Based on the content of the theoretical and practical parts, teaching materials were created in the form of an interactive curriculum, which introduced students to the above-mentioned issue, and they were also given an exercise in which they mastered the process of creating a style in the Mapbox Studio tool. The purpose of the assigned exercise was to obtain feedback from the students, which should point out any shortcomings in the processing of teaching materials in the interactive curriculum. The received feedback from the students pointed out minor shortcomings in the processing of the interactive curriculum, but overall, the teaching materials were evaluated as useful and beneficial. The interactive curriculum was modified to eliminate minor shortcomings as much as possible.
