Competition of air and high speed rail transport in China

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je vyhodnotit intenzitu konkurence mezi leteckou a železniční osobní dopravou na vybraných meziměstských trasách v Číně v kontextu nedávno zavedené vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy. Úvodní kapitola, která se zabývá rešerší, popisuje konkurenční efekty očekávané v důsledku zavádění vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy na základě dosavadních studií. Následuje analýza trendů a vývoje v oblasti dopravy v Číně, která statisticky mapuje vývoj konkurence a celkové situace na trhu dopravních služeb. Závěrečná kapitola práce pak v kontextu zjištěných poznatků konstruuje a inter-pretuje vlastní ekonometrickou analýzu.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the intensity of competition between air and rail passenger transport on selected intercity routes in China in the context of the recently introduced high-speed rail transport. The introductory chapter, which deals with research, describes the competitive effects expected as a result of the introduction of high-speed rail transport based on existing studies. This is followed by an analysis of trends and developments in the transport sector in China, which statistically maps the development of competition and the overall situation in the transport services market. The final chapter of the thesis then constructs and interprets its own econometric analysis in the context of the findings.
