Informal Family Care for Older Adult with Alzheimer's Disease in the Terminal Phase of Life

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku syndromu vyhoření u neformálních pečujících starajících se o seniora v terminálním stádiu Alzheimerovy choroby. Teoretická část je rozdělená na tři kapitoly - stárnutí, stáří a senior, Alzheimerova choroba, neformální péče o seniora a syndrom vyhoření. Kapitola stárnutí, stáří a senior popisuje tyto pojmy a dále je rozdělena na podkapitoly stárnutí a potřeby seniorů. Druhá kapitola Alzheimerova choroba popisuje nemoc v kontextu stáří a soužití rodiny se seniorem s Alzheimerovou chorobou. Třetí kapitola se věnuje neformální péči o seniora a je rozdělena na podkapitoly rodina a dopady neformální péče. Poslední kapitola - syndrom vyhoření popisuje tento pojem a je doplněna podkapitolou syndrom vyhoření v neformální péči. Aplikační část je realizovaná pomocí kvantitativního dotazníkového šetření. Pro zjištění syndromu vyhoření je využit standardizovaný nástroj Burnout Measure. Hlavní výzkumnou otázkou je zjistit do jaké míry jsou rodinní neformální pečující starající se o seniora v terminálním stádiu Alzheimerovy choroby v domácím prostředí ohroženi syndromem vyhoření. Hlavním zjištěním aplikační části je, že 45,7 % respondentů je ohroženo syndromem vyhoření a u 37 % respondentů je přítomen syndrom vyhoření.

Abstract:

This Batchelor thesis focuses on the issue of Burnout syndrome of the informal caregivers caring for an elderly person in terminal stage of Alzheimer's disease. The teheoretical part is divided into three parts - aging, old age and senior, Alzheimer's disease, Informal caregiving and Burnout syndrome. The aging, old age and senior chapter describes these concepts and is further divided into subchapters on aging and the needs of the elderly. The second chapter, Alzheimer's Disease, describes the disease in the context of old age and family coexistence with a senior with Alzheimer's disease. The third chapter focuses on informal care for the elderly and is divided into subchapters on the family and the impact of informal care. The last chapter, burnout syndrome, describes the concept and is complemented by a subchapter on burnout syndrome in informal care. The application part is carried out by means of a quantitative questionnaire survey. The standardized instrument Burnout Measure is used to detect burnout syndrome. The main research question is to determine to what extent family informal caregivers caring for an elderly person in the terminal stage of Alzheimer's disease in a home environment are at risk of burnout syndrome. The main finding of the application part is that 45.7% of the respondents are at risk of burnout syndrome and 37% of the respondents have burnout syndrome present or are already burned out.
