The Czech book market in the first year of the corona crisis from the point of view of publishers

Abstract:

Publikace se věnuje českému knižnímu trhu v prvním roce pandemie koronaviru, popisuje tedy období od března 2020 do března 2021. Práce seznamuje se základní definicí knižního trhu a objasňuje s ním související pojmy. Součástí práce je výzkum, který se zabývá pohledem nakladatelů na český knižní trh ve sledovaném období. Práce popisuje změny, ke kterým v roce došlo, jak se se situací vypořádala jednotlivá nakladatelství, jaké změny byli nakladatelé nuceni učinit, jak fungoval prodej knih přes internet, zda se nakladatelům dostalo pomoci ze strany státu a čtenářů, jakou roli měly ve sledovaném období e-knihy a jaké jsou predikce vývoje českého knižního trhu do dalších let.

Abstract:

The topic of this publication concerns the state of the Czech book market during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e. from March 2020 to March 2021. The publication introduces the basic definition of the book market and clarifies concepts pertaining to it. This paper contains research concerning the point of view of the publishers on the Czech book market in the previously described time period. The paper describes changes that occurred in that year and how individual publishers reacted to the extraordinary situation, or what changes did they have to make, or how the process of selling books over the Internet worked. The publication also describes whether the publishers received any support from the state or from the readers, and what impact E-Books had on the market during the observed period of time. Finally, the paper takes a look on the predictions of the development of the Czech book market in the coming years.
