Acculturation of Syrians in Europe and its economic impact: the case study of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Federal Republic of Germany

Abstract:

Migrace je jevem, který ovlivňuje státy v globálním měřítku. Dopadá na veškeré elementy socioekonomické sféry a vyžaduje detailní plánování na poli legislativy, financí a integrace za účelem maximalizace pozitivního efektu. Zákonitosti s ní spojené popsuje řada autorů ve formě migračních teorií, mezi které řadíme Ravensteinovy zákony, Push-pull teorii, Neoklasickou teorii a další jež vysvětlují pohyby obyvatelstva. Pouze při zevrubné znalosti hybatelů migrace lze adekvátně nastavit migrační a azylovou politiku země a zázemí na trhu práce, vzdělání a integračních programů. Práce se zaměřuje na nucenou migraci, která je výsledkem politického vývoje na Blízkém Východě a od roku 2010 významně ovlivňuje dění v Evropě – zejména ve Švédsku a Německu, které jsou hlavními cílovými zeměmi syrské migrace. Podává ucelený pohled na vliv akulturační strategie a hostitelské kultury jako takové s přihlédnutím k historickému vývoji a společnému rámci EU v oblasti migrace.Autorka zavádí pojem kulturní diferenciál jakožto veličinu pro zkoumání hypotézy nulového vlivu kultury na výběr hostitelské země. Porovnáním kultury všech států EU vůči Sýrii a s přihlédnutím ke kvalitativním rozhovorům s experty na problematiku Blízkého Východu tuto hypotézu potvrzuje.Bylo rovněž zjištěno, že socioekonomické náklady hostitelských zemí a racionální rozhodnutí, zda uprchlíky přijmout či nikoli lze založit na analogii mikroekonomické neoklasické teorie migrace.

Abstract:

Migration is a phenomenon which involves countries on a global scale. It affects all the elements of the socioeconomic sphere and requires detailed planning in the field of legislation, finance, and integration in order to maximize the positive outcome. A number of authors present migration theories explaining the movements of inhabitants such as Ravenstein’s laws, Push-Pull theory, and Neoclassical theory. It is possible to adjust migration and asylum policy and education and integration programs accordingly, only if the causes of migration are carefully examined. The core of the thesis focuses on the forced and impelled migration as a result of political development in the Middle East which greatly influences European states since 2010, especially Sweden and Germany – the main host countries of Syrian refugees. The thesis offers a comprehensive overview of the acculturation strategies and host culture with regards to the historical evolvement and a common EU migration policy background.The author presents a term cultural differential to examine the hypothesis of zero impact of culture on the choice of the home country. Comparing EU member states‘ culture and Syria’s culture based on the cultural differential and qualitative interviews with experts on the Middle East, the hypothesis has been confirmed.It has been also found that socio-economic expense of the host countries and a rational decision whether to accept refugees can be based on the micro-economics neoclassical theory of migration.
