Collectors of contemporary art at the beginning of the 21st century in Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá sběratelstvím současného umění na počátku 21. století ve spojení s proměnami, které přináší nové technologie a změny ve společnosti. V první části jsou vysvětleny pojmy, běžně užívané v souvislosti se sběrateli, dále je stručně představeno historické prostředí, ze kterého sběratelství v České republice na počátku nového milénia vychází. Ve druhé části práce jsou řešeny konkrétní otázky, vyvstávající při sbírání soudobého umění. Například vztah umělce a sběratele, vlivy na současnou produkci nebo způsoby vedení sbírky. Samostatná kapitola pojednává o instalacích a nových médiích - zda a jakým způsobem jsou sbírána, uchovávána a vystavována. Závěrem je rovněž věnována pozornost soukromým galeriím a muzeím, které sběratelé zakládají nejen za účelem prezentace vlastní kolekce. Jako hlavní výzkumná metoda byla zvolena forma dotazníků a rozhovorů se soudobými sběrateli (Richard Adam, Dadja Altenburg-Kohl, Igor Fait, Zdeněk Marek, Michael Třeštík), které jsou součástí práce.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with collecting contemporary art on the begining of 21st century, and changes which brought the new technological conveniences and the political overturn in society. At first, are there explain a few notion, common used to describe different type of collectors and after it a necessary introduce to the historical context of collecting art on the Czech ground. In the second part of this thesis, is handled few questions which are go along the collecting of contemporary art. They are, for example, relationship between the artist and collector, if there any impact on the production of contemporary art from those are collect them, or the different ways how are the collections are made. Separate chapter is about new media and instalation – how to collect them, preserve and exhibited. Also the reasons for establishing a private gallery or museum are there solved particularly. As the main reaserch method was elected interviews with the contemporary art collectors (Richard Adam, Dadja Altenburg-Kohl, Igor Fait, Zdeňek Marek, Michael Třeštík), whose answers are constituent part of this thesis.
